Position Details (What is this?)

Service NL is a diverse department acting as a single access point for many of the licensing, permitting, inspecting, and regulating functions within government. Service NL is comprised of two branches delivering a wide range of quality programs and services to protect the health and safety of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians; regulate and enforce workplace safety and health practices with initiatives that protect and inform the province’s workforce and regulation and information to protect the interests of consumers in a wide range financial activities taking place throughout the province. With such a broad scope of functions, Service NL offers a vast array of dynamic employment opportunities that focus on serving and protecting the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Manager of Inspection Services is accountable for planning, organizing and managing the technical inspection programs, services and resources and providing regulatory and professional advice, analysis and recommendations on inspection services. Specifically, this position plans, administers, coordinates and supervises the technical inspections program which governs the fabrication, installation, operation and maintenance of boilers, pressure vessels, pressure piping systems, elevating devices, amusement rides and the accessibility of public buildings; assists in the development and maintenance of relevant provincial legislation, policies and procedures; interprets legislation, codes and standards relating to inspection services; analyzes reports on hazardous equipment and ensures hazards are removed or mitigated; assists the Director in preparation of the divisional budget and monitors divisional spending; represents the department on various committees and boards as required; proactively engages department executives on existing or anticipated issues; and other relevant duties.

  1. Experience in the installation, inspection and operation of mechanical systems and equipment
  2. Experience conducting technical inspections
  3. Experience leading or mentoring others
  4. Experience in the maintenance and repairs to boilers and pressure vessels (asset)
  5. Experience in the maintenance and repairs to elevating devices and amusement rides(asset)
  6. Experience developing policies and procedures (asset)
  7. Completion of a degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering (equivalences will be considered)
