Position Details (What is this?)

Context
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development is responsible for early childhood learning and development, the K-12 school system, and public libraries. The Department aims to build an educational community in Newfoundland and Labrador that fosters safe, caring and inclusive learning environments for all children and youth in early childhood settings, regulated child care and family resources centers, and pre-school to grade 12. This is accomplished by providing educational policy and direction, as well as curriculum and programs, for the K-12 system, and the administration and management of the K-12 school capital construction program. Additionally, the  Department provides student assessment and research, a broad range of human and technical support services support for students with exceptionalities, support to school districts and public libraries, and e-learning.
Duties
The primary responsibility of the Social Assistance Worker (SAW) is to financially assess and respond to inquiries and applications for child care subsidy for families involved in the child care subsidy program as well as to licensed child care providers; as well as duties related to other financial programs within the Division. The incumbent implements child care services subsidy policies and practices and works in collaboration with Provincial Standards, and provides information regarding child care subsidy such as applications, reapplications, claims, payments and referrals. The SAW communicates with child care providers regarding their status of child care subsidy approvals and authorizations; maintains files to ensure information is up to date and accurate and all required information is included prior to subsidy approval or reapproval on an ongoing basis; enters all information into Integrated Services Management (ISM) in order to process authorizations; enters case notes into ISM; and completes other duties as required.

  1. Diploma in Accounting or Business Management (equivalencies will be considered)
  2. Experience assessing financial eligibility
  3. Experience with office Administrative practices (asset)

  2. Knowledge of legislation governing the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development as related to early learning and child care (asset)
