Position Details (What is this?)

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources promotes the development of the Province’s fishing and aquaculture industries to ensure an economically viable, internationally competitive, and ecologically sustainable fishery. The Department also develops the policies and programs to support the forestry, including management of forest resources and continued development of competitive and sustainable primary and value-added agriculture and agrifoods industry. The department is also responsible for fish and wildlife enforcement and manages wildlife resources and the associated ecological, economic and social benefits in addition to the protection and preservation of species at risk. Additionally,  the Department also manages and allocates provincial Crown lands in a responsible manner for the continuous social and economic benefit for residents of Newfoundland and Labrador.
This incumbent is responsible for the provision of advanced administrative and clerical support to Supervisers and Management of Crown Lands Administration division including clerical aspects of the various processes of Lands programs including administrative processes; support in serving the public by phone, letter, email, or in person; preparation of correspondence and reports; maintenance of office records; data entry using departmental Oracle,TRIM and AMANDA based programs; manage office mail; receive and apply fees for clients. The incumbent performs a variety of complex and confidential duties including composing correspondence; processing Cabinet Papers, ministerial briefing notes, draft response letters for signature, drafting legal land documents and forms; answering incoming routine calls and independently handling complaints and requests for information; scheduling and assisting with meetings and presentations; minute taking and transcription; coordinating the compilation and distribution of reports; invoice approval and manages inventory of office supplies; performs other related work as required.

  1. Completion of post secondary Diploma in Office Administration (equivalencies will be considered)
  2. Legal Office Administration Diploma (asset)
  3. Experience in office administration
  4. Experience with government purchasing
