Position Details (What is this?)

The Department of Justice and Public Safety ensures the impartial administration of justice and the protection of the public interest through the dual offices of the Attorney General and the Minister of Justice and Public Safety. Responsibilities of the department include family justice services, fines administration, support enforcement, policing, the sheriff’s office, adult secure custody, adult probation services, secure youth justice services, victim services and administration of the courts. The department also both represents and provides legal services to the Crown including legal advice to departments, litigation, prosecution and legislative drafting services. The Department of Justice and Public Safety aims to improve public protection and access to justice in a manner that is sensitive to the diverse needs of its clients.
The Director of Court Services is the senior management position accountable for the planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the administrative operations of the Provincial Court throughout the province. The incumbent leads the Court Services Division which includes policy and planning, finance, transcripts coordination, human resources, information management, and operations.  Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of Justice and Public Safety the incumbent will assume overall responsibility for the services of the Branch and will develop strategic, operational, and fiscal plans for the court in consultation with the Chief Judge. The Director of Court Services will provide leadership in the development of divisional estimates, internal planning and management systems, major program and policy reviews, development, and implementation, as well as the delivery of support programs for the Division. The incumbent will contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of court services by successfully establishing and maintaining positive and meaningful working relationships with the judiciary, court staff, legal professional, senior government officials, and external justice communities, while improving operational performance and continuity by recruiting, selecting, training, developing, and motivating divisional employees. The Director of Court Services will ensure the effective integration, development, and delivery of human resources, financial and information management programs and services by planning, implementing and controlling divisional operations to optimize service delivery requirements.

  2. Masters degree in business (asset).
  3. Experience leading and managing staff.
  4. Experience managing budgets.
  5. Experience planning and implementing strategic initiatives.
