Position Details (What is this?)

Context
The Department of Transportation and Works is responsible for the administration, supervision, control, regulation, management and direction of all matters relating to transportation and public works. As such, the Department oversees the construction and maintenance of the provincial highways; the provision of the provincial ferry services; management of the provincial government fleet of light vehicles and heavy equipment; operation and maintenance of the provincial government air ambulances and water bombers; and construction and management of provincial government buildings. The vision of the Department of Transportation and Works is of safe, reliable and sustainable transportation and public works infrastructure and services, demonstrating a commitment to service excellence in supporting the social and economic needs of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Duties
Technical work involved in assisting the Resident Engineer with the detailed work associated with the financial control and technical supervision of projects within the Capital Roads Program; receives, reduces and interprets field survey information; provides field survey staff with required up to date information; receives weigh scale and checkers tickets, checks and verifies calculations; determines quantities for capital projects; prepares ledgers and summary sheets for daily production; keeps attendance records, checks travel claims; revises contract plans and drawings as required; maintains presence in the site office; may be required to perform field duties as assigned by the Resident Engineer; other related duties as required.

  1. Experience with construction methods, equipment, materials and practices
  2. Field experience
  3. Experience with interpreting drawings and specifications
  4. Experience with interpreting contracts
  5. Experience with design, spreadsheet and office software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and Excel
  6. Completion of Engineering Technology or Construction Technology program
