Position Details (What is this?)

Context
Service NL is a diverse department acting as a single access point for many of the licensing, permitting, inspecting, and regulating functions within government. Service NL is comprised of two branches delivering a wide range of quality programs and services to protect the health and safety of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians; regulate and enforce workplace safety and health practices with initiatives that protect and inform the province’s workforce and regulation and information to protect the interests of consumers in a wide range of financial activities taking place throughout the province. With such a broad scope of functions, Service NL offers a vast array of dynamic employment opportunities that focus on serving and protecting the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Duties
This position is responsible for performing written, vision and road tests in order to determine a driver’s ability to operate various types of motor vehicles consistent with the safety and mobility of the motoring public; inspecting motor vehicles prior to conducting the road test; performing medical reassessments on drivers who may have to demonstrate their driving ability and then makes a recommendation; maintaining and scheduling road test appointments for all classes of license;  assembling and dismantling the photo capture work station when working at travel points; auditing of driving schools to ensure compliancy with policy/procedures outlined in Graduated Driver’s license program; processing photo ID‘s and driver’s license applications as necessary on MRD Mainframe and photo capture workstations; receipting and balancing cash, cheques, money orders, debit cards, and credit cards for transactions;  assisting clients by outlining the requirements of the Highway Traffic Act, Regulations and various Motor Registration Programs; and performing other related duties.

  1. Front line customer service experience
  2. Experience in driver instruction or examination
  3. Experience in motor vehicle mechanical inspection (asset)
  4. Experience in the operation of various types of motor vehicles (asset)
  5. Completion of a driver training course from an approved institute in all classes of license (asset)
