Position Details (What is this?)


This position reports to the Senior Manager of Wildlife Research and will be expected to work collaboratively with staff across several government departments.  The incumbent develops range/ habitat plans for each of the three local populations identified in the 2012 federal Boreal Caribou Recovery Strategy (under the Boreal Caribou Conservation Agreement).  The incumbent will be responsible for the initial drafting of a document proposing conservation measures in a land use framework, consulting with Indigenous Governments and Organizations, other provincial land use management agencies, industry stakeholders, and the public.  Work collaboratively with federal biologists to ensure range/habitat plans meet federal legal requirement.  This position in conjunction with other Wildlife Biologists and Ecologists will contribute land use referral processes by reviewing technical reports and submissions, assesses impacts of proposed land uses and resource developments, provides regulatory guidance, and liaises with project proponents. The incumbent will support the Senior Manager of Wildlife Research and the Senior Wildlife Biologist in Labrador on the development of a management framework for Boreal Caribou collaboratively with Indigenous Governments and Organizations in Labrador.

Screening Criteria
  1. Completion of a graduate degree in Biology (equivalencies will be considered)
  2. Experience with recovery and co-management planning
  3. Experience developing population models
  4. Experience working with geospatial data
  5. Experience with geospatial applications (such as ARC GIS)
  6. Experience with conducting stakeholder consultations
