Position Details (What is this?)

Reporting to the Senior Wildlife Biologist (Labrador), the incumbent will be responsible to coordinate and facilitate collaboration with Indigenous governments and organizations.  This will include research projects, monitoring programs and management planning commitments as well as developing stewardship initiatives and knowledge sharing sessions under the Boreal Caribou Conservation Agreement (BCCA).  The Wildlife Biologist II will participate in the planning and delivery of various aerial and ground wildlife survey and classifications as well as the capture and collaring of large mammals.  This will include the chemical immobilization of wildlife, capturing and handling of large mammals, the use of firearms, the collection of biological samples, and assisting with the analysis of data and reporting on results.

  1. Completion of an undergraduate degree in Biology (equivalencies will be considered)
  2. Experience coordinating stewardship projects, events or workshops
  3. Experience working collaboratively with Indigenous governments or organizations
  4. Experience with the capture and handling of large mammals
  5. Experience participating in aerial or other wildlife surveys
  6. Experience analyzing biological data and writing technical documents

  2. Proof of or requirement to complete firearm safety training
Conditions of Acceptance
  1. Willing to accept overnight travel
  2. Willing to work flexible start/end times for workday
  3. Acknowledge requirement for operating a firearm
  4. Willing to travel to remote northern communities
  5. Acknowledges operation and maintenance of equipment including ATVs, snowmobiles, ATVs, trucks, boats, and chainsaw as part of field duties.
  6. Acknowledges requirement for travel by helicopter
  7. Acknowledges requirement for performing work in severe weather conditions in remote locations for extended periods of time
  8. Acknowledges requirement for maintaining licensures/certifications.
  9. Acknowledges requirements for Wilderness First Aid
