Position Details (What is this?)

Duties
The primary purpose of this position is to provide leadership and expertise in the promotion of best practices in the field of Early Childhood Education with respect to the provision of programs and services provided by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. Reporting to the Regional Manager of Early Learning and Child Development, the Child Care Consultant, acts as an inspector, consultant, educator, coordinator, researcher and resource developer for early childhood development and education of children, from birth to age twelve, and their families. Responsibilities will include conducting assessments of licensed child care facilities in the region; providing consultation and clarification on the  Act, Regulations and policies for licensees, administers, community groups and other individuals requiring information; making recommendations to the Regional Manager with respect to licensing; acting in a supportive capacity for new applicants and re-applicants during the licensing process; participating on an interdisciplinary committee regarding program issues; completing statistical reports; and performing other related duties as required.

Merit Criteria (What is this?)

Screening Criteria
  1. Completion of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education (equivalencies will be considered)
  2. Level IV Certification from the Association of Early Childhood Educators of Newfoundland and Labrador (AECENL)
  3. Experience working with children in a licensed child care centre
  4. Experience inspecting and/or investigating child care facilities (asset)
Assessment Criteria
  1. Knowledge of legislation, policies and procedures governing child care centres
  2. Knowledge of EECD programs and community services (asset)
  3. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal)
