Position Details (What is this?)

Duties
As a member of the Department's Senior Management team, this position plays an instrumental leadership role in the management of accommodations in government owned and leased property, as well as the administration and operation of government's telecommunications services. The Director will lead the divisional team in exploring, developing and implementing space utilization solutions that will allow government to optimize its spatial footprint. The ultimate goal is to maximize financial efficiencies in the provision of building accommodations while providing an effective and productive work environment. This position is also responsible for managing the Department’s real estate holdings, including the acquisition of land for public works, and the disposal of land that is no longer required. This includes providing direction to ensure that the necessary property is available for capital and maintenance construction projects of roads, bridges, wharves, airstrips and departmental facilities and that highway corridors are protected. This position directs the purchase, expropriation, sale lease, license, survey and appraisal of land and property for Government use. Negotiates and/or directs negotiations with property owners and/or legal representatives. Specific responsibilities include strategic planning for utilization of government owned and leased building assets; establishment and enforcement of policies and standards pertaining to government's spatial and building fit up standards as well as property holdings; planning and design management of interior building reconfigurations in government owned facilities; overseeing the technical, contractual, regulatory and procedural requirements associated with the acquisition and administration of government leased accommodations and properties; ensuring adherence to applicable policy and procedures, regulations, and legislation; liaising with senior officials and executive of client departments and agencies to provide accommodations and procure land to meet user needs; management, administration and operation of government's overall voice telecommunications and wireless data contractual services, including strategic planning for future needs and services in this field; providing direction to internal staff and external consultants. Other related duties as required.
