Position Details (What is this?)

Duties
These positions are responsible for providing professional social work services to clients of the Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development (CSSD) covering a spectrum of services and programs including Protective Intervention Services, Adoption Services, Youth Services and Community Youth Corrections.  The Social Worker I will conduct risk and safety assessments; provide counseling and case management for children, youth and families to address family dynamics and complex psychosocial factors. Other duties include screening, identifying and prioritizing referrals for service, developing intervention plans, consulting with other professionals as necessary, and completing documentation in accordance with professional standards of practice, and policies and procedures of the department. In addition, the Social Worker I prepares reports, completes legal documents and provides testimony in court as required, conducts home or agency visits, supports community based services, and provides supervision and evaluation of graduate and undergraduate social work students. The Social Worker I adheres to the standards for client services in accordance with the Social Work Code of Ethics, Social Work Standards Practice and departmental standards. The Social Worker I performs other related duties as required.

  1. Completion of a Bachelor of Social Work degree
  2. Experience working with children, youth and families
  3. Experience in the field of child protection (asset)

Conditions of Acceptance
  1. There is a requirement for a flexible work schedule: 150 hours (a combination of 7.5 and 11.25 hour shifts) in a two week period, followed by two weeks off.
  2. There is a requirement for the use of a private vehicle with business insurance.
  3. The incumbents will be required to drive to their headquarters on day 1 of their 14 day rotation and return to their permanent residence on day 14 of the 14 day rotation; on these days the incumbent will be on travel status and eligible for reimbursement of meal costs and usage of private vehicle at GNL established rates.
  4. Employees will receive a housing allowance of $630/month, but are responsible for obtaining their own accommodations.
  5. Requirement for on-call work (when required).
