Position Details

Dept. of Health and Community Services 

The Epidemiologist position will work as part of a team of Epidemiologists to support the Public Health core program of Population Health Assessment, Surveillance and Epidemiology, with a particular emphasis on Communicable Disease Surveillance. The position contributes to fulfilling legislated public health requirements, including population health assessment and the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Public Health five-year plan. The Epidemiologist will collaborate with other Epidemiologists within the Department to support province wide public health surveillance activities, including the systematic monitoring of communicable and non-communicable diseases, health determinants, and population health outcomes. The incumbent will apply a range of quantitative and qualitative methods to the systematic collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of data to identify trends, emerging issues, and public health risks. This position provides expert epidemiological and technical advice to the Department of Health and Community Services to support evidence informed planning, policy development, and program implementation. Responsibilities include ensuring data quality, applying appropriate statistical and epidemiological methods, and contributing to surveillance system development and improvement. The Epidemiologist will work closely with Medical Officers of Health, members of the Public Health Division, and a broad range of public health partners, including stakeholders across government, health system partners, and community organizations, to support coordinated and effective public health action.

Screening Criteria

  1. Completion of a Master's Degree (MSc) in Epidemiolog
  2. Experience conducting epidemiological and or bio-statistical research
  3. Public health experience (asset)

  2. Ability to plan and conduct epidemiological analysis
  3. Ability to analyze, interpret and make recommendations
  4. Ability to effectively exchange and translate knowledge and information
  5. Ability to work independently and manage time
