Position Details

Health and Community Services - Government of Newfoundland and Labrador  

The Public Health Manager is accountable for providing leadership and oversight for public health programs including Communicable Disease Control, Infection Prevention and Control, and Growth and Development in the Early Years. The Manager provides strategic leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, standards, and guidelines that support evidence-informed public health practice and improve health outcomes across Newfoundland and Labrador. The Public Health Manager is responsible for oversight of the publicly funded immunization program including the procurement, ordering, distribution, and stewardship of publicly funded vaccines. The position provides leadership on communicable disease prevention and control, infection prevention and control, immunization, and healthy child development, ensuring alignment with provincial and national priorities, legislation, standards, and best practices. The Public Health Manager works closely with senior leadership, Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services, and federal, provincial, and territorial partners to advance public health priorities through policy development, intersectoral collaboration, and system-wide initiatives. The Manager monitors emerging issues, trends, and evidence, and represents the Department on provincial and national committees and working groups that support public health protection and promotion throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

Screening Criteria

  1. Completion of a degree in a related health field (equivalencies will be considered)
  2. Related experience working in a Public Health Field
  3. Experience supervising staff
  4. Related policy experience

Assessment Criteria

  1. Knowledge of public health principles and practices
  2. Knowledge of public health legislation and public health services (asset)
  3. Knowledge of strategic planning processes
  4. Ability to effectively exchange information
  5. Ability to lead others
  6. Stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills
