Salary: $47.77 - $56.45 per hour (CG-46), 35 hours per week; labour market adjustment signing bonus of $20,000 in return for a one-year return-in-service agreement

Allowances:

The Board has approved a short-term, one-time, non-pensionable annual market adjustment of $20,000 for the Regional Veterinarian and Veterinarian (Poultry) classifications within the Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands.

This adjustment is effective February 17, 2026, and will remain in place until the earlier of:

  • the conclusion of a new Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE) General Services Collective Agreement, or
  • February 16, 2028

Position Details

Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands

These positions provide large animal ambulatory veterinary service to 11 progressive dairy farmsin western Newfoundland and the growing livestock sectors in western Newfoundland andLabrador. There is a strong focus on animal disease prevention and preventative health programswith a goal to positively impact health and welfare of animals and farm productivity. The primaryresponsibility of the positions is to supply routine and emergency veterinary service to livestockproducers. Other duties include disease surveillance, control and response, provision of veterinaryservice to horses, and providing veterinary assessments in animal welfare investigations. There isopportunity to develop special interest in wildlife, by overseeing the acquisition, management andcontrol of chemical immobilization agents used for wildlife restraint as required by WildlifeDivision and Regional Services Division. There is also opportunity to develop special interest skillsin any of the livestock sectors such as advanced reproduction, milk quality, or meat inspection. Theveterinarians are supported by an Animal Health Technologist. There is an on-site laboratory withhematology, chemistry and milk quality testing. These positions are based in Pynn’s Brook, NL.

Screening Criteria

1.Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (Individuals nearing completion of their program areencouraged to apply)
2.Experience in food animal veterinary medicine
